University of Memphis Holds Family Literacy Nights at Porter-Leath

University of Memphis, led by Dr. Lauren Burrow, created family literacy nights at Porter-Leath Head Starts to provide university students, Porter-Leath teachers, and Porter-Leath families to explore effective ways to create daily literacy activities for young children. University students and Porter-Leath teachers were able to work together to practice classroom topics in a real-world setting and share activities with parents that they can use at home to promote literacy skills.

The project culminated with a Preschool-wide family literacy night at Douglass Head Start, complete with literacy activities that allowed children to make their own books and books for all children to take home!
