Porter-Leath Expands Preschool Programming

On July 31, 2012 Porter-Leath staff, along with community supporters of the organization, celebrated the opening of Porter-Leath Preschool at KIPP: Memphis Collegiate Elementary with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house. The new preschool, which includes five state-of-the-art classrooms for 100 students, is a partnership between Porter-Leath and KIPP: Memphis Collegiate Schools to bring a high-quality educational experience to children in the North Memphis community. Children will began school on August 6, 2012.

Funded completely by donations, families pay no tuition but must commit to remain actively involved in their children’s education and strive to achieve family goals. The strategic pilot program focuses on preparing underserved pre-kindergarten children from low-income families to enter kindergarten ready to learn. As Porter-Leath has been operating highly successful preschools as an Early Head Start grantee since 1999 and Head Start delegate agency to Shelby County Head Start since 2000, the preschool will set children up to complete their education, including college, enter the workforce and continue to lead successful lives.
